Cody “No Love” Garbrandt

I took this photo of Cody Garbrandt at the UFC Performance Institute as he was cooling down from a strength and conditioning workout. I had just taken a few shots of him sitting on that block looking down, but as soon as he looked up directly at me and I took this photo, I knew this was going to be the best one. I even looked at him and sort of nodded as if to say “that was the one.”

I shot this on a 20mm lens, and normally I’d switch to the 35mm if I wanted to get some of the environment in a portrait, however in this case I think it worked out pretty well, as you can tell where he is by seeing the weights next to him but he’s still the main subject of the photo.

Cody also decided to post the color version of this photo on his instagram, which of course was awesome not only as the one who took it, but as a long time fan as well.
